York Theory Test Centre Directions
Car
York’s test venue is located at the old Fire Station on Clifford Street, in the southern outskirts of the city centre. York is accessible via the A64 and A19, and has good connections to the A1(M) motorway.
Parking
Given the test site’s central location, there are ample parking options. We’ve identified two facilities below, which are reasonably priced and in close proximity to the test centre.
The Castle Car Park is a short, two minutes walk away from Clifford Street. Two hours of parking, which will provide more than enough time to locate the venue, conduct your test, and return to your car, is charged at a rate of £5.80.
Please note that disabled parking spaces are available, and electronic vehicle charging is facilitated at this site.
Piccadilly Yard Car Park is a little further away from the venue, but parking charges are a little cheaper. Parking for a duration of two hours here will cost £3.00. Again, two hours will provide ample time to complete your test and head back to your vehicle.
Please be aware that this site does not accept card payments. Parking fees must be paid for either by cash, or using the Parkonomy phone service line. Piccadilly Yard is located under 500m from the test venue, which can be reached by heading over the River Foss, and progressing westwards through York city centre.

Bus
There are numerous bus services that offer scheduled stops nearby the test site. The following list of routes are not exhaustive, but provide some of the key transit lines heading into the city centre:
Numbers: 10, 3, 843, CITYZAP. Further information on these services can be found at this page.
If using any of the aforementioned routes, or indeed any other local service within York’s bus network, we would encourage you to target one of the following bus stops:
Clifford Street, Clifford’s Tower, Merchantgate, Piccadilly.
All of these stops are within a four-minute walk of the venue.
Train
York Train Station, based in the west of the city centre, welcomes services from around the UK. The station is approximately 1.3km away from the testing venue, a journey which will take approximately sixteen minutes to navigate on foot. Head eastbound of the River Ouse, and advance south-east towards the test centre.
Alternatively, the number 4 bus service can be taken from the train station bus stop up to Clifford Street. This will reduce travel time by around six minutes.
Please visit the National Rail website for further information about York Train Station.
